Is it true, that nobody can get voice to work, using ICF
and Windows Messenger ? Is it true that, the only way to get voice to work
with Windows Messenger is by shutting down ICF ? If
somebody somehow got this to work, what magic did you perform to get this to
work, without shutting down ICF ? I have never gotten
voice to work with ICF and Windows Messenger, but have not stopped
scratching my head. ( I am not using a router. I set up the mic and
speakers using the Wizard. I am not willing to shut down my firewall, and
fling open my system to every infection on the wild wild web.)

I also noticed that 3 different people posted the same problem on July 9,
July 10, and July 11, and nobody was able to come up with any substantive
response (something more than sarcasm).

Greetings JW,

Actually the ICF works great with Windows Messenger; the ports will automatically be opened
by way of the UPnP support in the ICF.

However, this will only work when you're in an account with administrator privileges; limited
users cannot open ports on the firewall and therefore it won't work.

There have also been more than once instance where this capability stops working and various
ways to "reset". The best thing to do however if it's not working is to wait for the Service
Pack 2 release of Windows XP in the next few weeks which introduces a new firewall where a
lot of Messenger issues have been corrected (for instance, no more configuration required for
file transfer).

No need for sorry. Anybody who responds here, no matter how late, is being
generous with their time, and sympathetic towards those struggling to learn.
Generosity and Sympathy from anybody in a newsgroup is like manna from
heaven, in my opinion. We certainly didn't earn it, and can never repay
you.

Hi JW,

No problem at all; sorry for the late response.

Hi Jonathan,

I have Problems running MSN Messenger on Windows XP behind a Windows
Server 2003. Will there be an Update for the Firewall of Windows Server
2003, too?

Sincerly,
Christian Wilhelm
