Hi,
I'm trying to get VMWare Workstation to run under Windows Vista Beta 2. I
have two PC's on which I have installed Vista and on one of them VMWare runs
with no problem, on the other which has different hardware but essentially
the same configutation VMWare crashes the whole system. Does anyone know of a
workaround for this problem?

Vista is not yet supported as a Host OS in VMWare workstation, so getting it
to work is rather trial and error.

I've been running VMWare workstation in Vb2 - version 5.5.something - Runs
fine. I have an XP installation for applications that are not yet supported
in vista.

You do mean installing VMWare IN vista, not the other way round?

Steve

There really isn't much that I think anyone can do unfortunately. As was stated,
Vista is still not fully supported as a host OS, and as such, if it works, it
works, if not, then it doesn't. My guess is that it is probably driver related
in how VMWare maps its virtual hardware to the host hardware, but I could be
wrong. I have some of an issue with VMWare Workstation 5.5 in that it can take a
long time to actually start a virtual machine, and pretty much locks the system
while doing so. I've also had issues where shutting down or restarting the
virtual machine will cause a memory error and BSOD.

How do you get VMWare Workstation 5.5 to install and run on Vista Beta 2?

William

I don't know why that would be. I am running VMWare trial Workstation 5.5.1
with no problem with Vista and XP on it. To get the color and resolution
better and sound, I had to install the VM Tools after Vista was running.
