vlookup and crash

I have a worksheet with 30 columns.
I use the vlookup formula on another sheet.
That formula is linked with the sheet with the 30 columns.
It was all working fine, until I had to move some columns, so there
are only 20 columns left.
I changed the vlookup formulas because of moving the columns the
colomnnrumber I am searching in are also changed.

After I changed it, excel crashed, and it's not possible to use the
file anymore.
This is not the first time I have a problem with the vlookup function,
it works fine until you change something in the formula.

Who can help me to solve this problem?

Excel files can become corrupted at any time, especially if used from
server, so I do not think that this is specific to VLOOKUP() - it'
just that you did a lot of major changes at one time.

This is why we make backups.

I don't think so.
I made changes that's true, but I saved the files, after I changed
something, there were no problems, till I changed something in the
vlookup criteria, moved some columns.
After that I got the crash problem.
And it's not the first time it happened.

I'd bet that most excel users have done exactly what you describe with no
deleterious effects.

Maybe it was a coincidence that the problem occurred around the same time as
your changes.

You might be able to recover more by using another program--both xl2002+ and
OpenOffice have better reputations for opening files that earlier versions of
excel couldn't.

If the file is really important, there are commercial recovery services. I've
never used it, but you might want to check into:
