Hi all,
I downloaded the evaluation version and it installed some SQL Components.
However I can't seem to launch SQL. Is SQL part of the download? I don't
see SQL a SQL Server in the Server Explorer window.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Which edition did you download? The free Express edition or one of the
trial versions of "bigger" editions?

The VS 2008 download (bigger edition) seems to incorporated some SQL stuff.
I have the SQL Server configuration Manager, SQL Server Error and Usage
Reporting and SQL Server surface Area configuration. I didn't install
these separately, they were installed when I installed the trial version of
VS 2008.
Thanks.

Axapta,

Only SQLServer Express is given by the bigger version, as far as I know like
with Express.

Thanks Cor.
I've looked at installed programs and it shows Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (is
this SQL Express). How do I connect/launch EM or even Query Analyser?
Thanks

Actually, the free express versions don't come bundled with sql express but
you can choose to download and install it through the web boostrap
installers. So it is entirely possible that the express versions were used.
You can find out the version by going to the about box under the help menu.

Axapta,

In am not sure what you mean with EM however things are Query Analyzer you
can do with the Server Explorer. (I am not aware anymore how strong that is
in 2005, in 2008 it is very complete).

Be aware that you should first create a connection to that.

Sounds like you have SQL Server Express 2005. Enterprise Manager and the Query Analyzer are included
with SQL Server, but not the Express version. In order to manage SQL Server Express you will need to
use SQL Server 2005 Management Studio Express.

You can try a free query analyzer:
