Will Visual Studio 6.0 install and run in Windows XP?
.
I can't even get my Dev Studio 6 Enterprise Edition to
install on XP Pro (no SPs) -- it installs the Java VM,
boots, comes back up accepts some preliminary info and
then "Setup" fails (usually an out of memory) error. I
have 256MB and set up a huge page file -- no joy.

I've installed this on Windows 9x and 2000 OSes with no
problems -- on XP this problem is a tough nut.

I even did a clean 98SE install, installed Dev Studio on
it, and then installed XP on the disk -- no joy, it will
start but nothing works right (I suspect components in
Window folders are cleaned out).

I'm looking for answers right now...

Strange... VS6 Enterprise installs flawlessly on my XP Pro machine... I'm
using the Sun Java VM but do also have the MS one installed... Perhaps you
could try one of the compatibility modes?

An update:

I replaced my hard drive with a huge NTFS disk and all my
install problems went away.

Odd.
