After streaming audio, IE6 has hung with a 'buffer overrun
error'. It now refuses to open with the same error even
after re-booting and re-installing the software! I'm using
Win 98, and although the problem is described on the
Microsoft website, my problem is not, nor any way to
resolve it.

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library. Buffer overrun detected!
Program: C:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe
A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's
internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be
terminated.
This has been confirmed as parasites.

This may be caused by a third-party program (adware, spyware, parasite).
Get AdAware and SpyBot and run them both. Keep them up to date.
