I bought a copy of microsoft visual basic.net by Michael Halvorson. It was complete with discs for visual basic.net standard.

I cant even get the damned disc to load on. It just keeps saying "...some system components don't match the versions required...". Here's what I've done so far - I loaded the msdn library discs, and inserted the "prerequisites disc" but then, when I came to visual basic.net standard disc1 all I got was the error message.

The book (actually the cardboard casing the book came in says that all I need is XP Professional (which I have). No mention of any components.

WHATS WRONG??? and why cant I find any mention of visual basic.net in microsofts product list so I can get support from them?

The first thing you may want to do is to contact the publisher to see if
other people have had the same problem (they may have corrupted bits in the
book).

Otherwise there is a support page for Visual Basic .NET at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?xmlid=fh;EN-US;vbnet&sd=msdn.
If it doesn't cover your issue there is a link to contact support, which has
the Standard edition as an option.
