Visadvantage - When a user gets warnings about Windows Genuine Advantage
detecting their copy of Windows Vista as not being genuine regardless if the
copy is genuine or not.

I have not received any WGA prompts, and my copy of Vista has passed all WGA
checks required to download software from Microsoft's site.

Will you guys learn how to post (T.P. is bad form)
Anyhow no problems here either not that its gonna matter by the end of the
day cos its bye bye vista.

Already put out the word that I will NOT be supporting users who go up to
vista when (IF) it ever goes retail.

You're using Vista version 5472.
WGA is already built into Vista-
it's been phoning home.

It may not have been fully implemented in
Beta 2, but I'm pretty sure it is in the version
you are using.

At least learn to post correctly.
Sorry to dissapoint you but its B2 5384 (all sp's and fixes) (or was !) XP
SP2 by the time you read this.
Oh and it was legit as per MS technet.

I wasn't replying to you, punk.

Really. I didn't notice any difficulties in getting verified when I had the
Beta 2 build installed either. Perhaps that's just me...

And to the posting-god... What does "T.P. is bad form" mean? If you are
referring to my replies being above whatever quoted text, well I've been
posting like this for ages and will not change just for the sake of you.

There are no top posting / bottom posting rule fascists in this NG,
majority top posts but anything goes due to the nature of the NG and
the posters experience with usenet which in a lot of cases is next to
nothing.

If it was a proper tech NG I would expect a convention but its not its
a general Vista help NG for all levels of experience.

"learn to post", yourself.

Even non tech N.G.'s tend to use proper convention.
I did think that as a tech related group that most posters would have been
aware. But I guess not and the new breed of "forum" posters have mostly
never heard of usenet.
And a name in all caps dont make Micheal any type of big person. and well I
am sorry if I upset anyone I was only making a point but If you think I am
some form of fasist whatever then I am really sorry about your political
view also.

Actually, it depends for top-posting. Top-posting is normally not good, but
in Microsoft newsgroups, top-posting is an acceptable practice.

I didn't have any problems activating my Beta 2 of Vista, but I know that
WGA will be implemented in Vista and I know about all the problems of WGA
reporting a computer of not being genuine when it is with XP, and I know
that this will happen in Vista sooner or later.

I guess so. Call me old fashioned if you will. Guess I have probably used
"proper groups" too long to really change.

After the last WGA fiasco I would hope they find a better implementation. I
dont consider adding a stick of ram (needed react), or changing out a
defective rom drivr (needed react), or adding a USB wi-fi dongle (needed
react), as very friendly. Glad to see they relaxed it again. and hope vista
dont go overboard.

I should hope it does not matter in MS groups, because their very own
newsreader is set up to top post. But really, I hate when this argument
comes up.

Nowadays, and for quite a long time now, there is a little thing called
"threading". I really hate bottom posting because you have to keep
scrolling through all the text to get to the reply, and the more replies,
the more you must scroll.

Those who are "bottoms" ;-) insist it is proper etiquette to bottom post so
you can follow the conversation. But, if you are reading threaded
discussions, can you not remember what you read 5 seconds ago, and to what
article you are reading a response?

It is common on real groups that when a post becomes long due to the thread
that an edit "<snip>" is done to bring the post back into perspective.
the MS groups were real groups once but since they opened them to "portals"
I guess things went awry.

It has always been common courtesy to bottom post (or answer mid post on a
point by point basis) But I guess courtesy went the way of many things.

Google is one of the worst in that it omits the original text and only puts
the reply out to groups meaning that you have to go back a post to make out
what the last part of the thread was.

Ron I just think you ought to go with the flow of the current NG
before telling people to "learn to post".

You may have noticed some responders don't know what TP means, I would
bet a lot do not know what a proper news client is much less what
usenet is even though they are posting to it via Winmail or OE and
google groups etc. Some are under the impression its a complaints
forum to sqeal at MSFT because Vista don't work with X
hardware/software.

I know top posting is annoying in some circumstances but it I think it
depends on the context and content of the group + the convention being
used.

You know Houghi in alt.os.suse.linux?
He is a bottom posting fanatic and will not even answer top posters,
you would like him.

I generally bottom post but I go with the convention where appropriate
and I don't think "learn to post" in here is appropriate.

My thinking exactly and I was a newbie on usenet about 15 or 16 years
ago. But I also tend to edit the post I'm replying to so as to only
leave the bits I am replying to.

I still consider it appropriate but not with the current crowd.
I use quite a few "non tech groups" and groups that contain many "noobs"
(Hate that word) but like I said for the most part even they post correctly.
I dont Ignore TP so I dont think I am that bad, but i do reply correctly.
but thats just habit and good manners.
Guess I will just have to learn to get used to bad NETIQUETTE in here.
The devil in me says post a link
http://www.netmanners.com/

maybe cos i JDGAS

Anyhow you boys and girls have a good one. I got me some time off so I know
I will...

This is pathetic! How old are you people? I found this thread hoping to find
a resolution to a question I was having on RC1, and instead I run into a 3rd
grade playground scuffle over whether it's "polite" or "proper" to put your
response at the top or bottom? How childish is that? and don't you people
realize how childish it is? Are you really that anally retentive, or do you
really want others to think of you as that anally retentive? Is it really
"that" important? The important thing "should" be to help each other out so
that we benefit from each others knowledge and experience...not to argue over
'exactly' how it's posted.
