I have the following installed

XP on Drive D
Vista on Drive C

Unfortunately after installing xp in D, I booted from the Vista DVD and
installed it in Drive C.
Now the system directly boots into Vista. If I need to boot to XP, I have
boot with XP CD and repair the boot. With this I get back to XP directly but
lose Vista. If I need Vista, I need to boot with Vista DVD and repair the
boot. While I get back vista, I lose XP. I am sure one day I will end up
with having none of this if I continue doing this.......

I have tried searching to set this right but unfortunately unable to find a
way to do it. Can some body in this group tell me what to do to get a dual
boot with Vista and XP.

The bcdedit.exe is accessible when XP is running and I would prefer to do it
while running XP. What I need to do is to remove all bcd entries and add
fresh entries for vista and xp?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Regards
Simha

Try using either VistaBootPro or EasyBCD. Both of these applications are
no-cost downloads, are recommended by regular posters here, and are much
easier to use than the command line bcdedit.

as mark said all you need to do is make an entry in the bootloader. i would
do it in the vista bootloader and use it to load to XP
easy BCD is the better of the two.

Hi Simha,

You should have installed Windows XP on Drive C:, first. Then using the
Vista DVD you created, booted up using the DVD and installed Windows Vista
on D:. While this installation will preserve the Dual-Boot Scenio, while in
Windows Vista, it sees itself as Drive C: and reassigns Windows XP to D:.
But if you boot into Windows XP, Windows XP becomes Drive C: and Windows
Vista becomes Drive D:.

Always install the older operating system on the first partition, then
install the neweroperating system on the second.
