VISTA won't go to internet

Jake

I've installed RC1. I installed the nic driver.. All appears to work.
Drivers are loaded. I can browse and connect to resources on my local LAN..
I am able to get to google.com and live.com.. I can go nowhere else.
I've turned off the firewall, disabled "protected mode" ..

I've already spent more time with this than I believe it's worth. VISTA
is pretty much the XP Millennium Edition. It should be renamed XP The New
Millennium.

How much more of my time am I going to have to give to Microsofto get this
POS to work?

I can't figure out why the internet isn't working. All other PC's on my
lan work fine. I have an IP Address. I can get to google.com.. The damn
browser just sits there and never presents the page.

What am I missing? What buried setting is preventing a brand new install
from going to the internet ? It won't even connect to Windows Update..

Bryan

Hi Bryan,

It's not Vista, it's the nic driver. With RC1, there is an issue with Marvel
Yukon network adapters and limited connectivity. There are several
workarounds, the easiest being to install XP drivers. This has been fixed in
later builds.

I had the same problem, it took me too long to figure out as well.

Open control panel.

Go to "Network and sharing center".

Make sure your network is set to "private" not "public"

Rick,

If it's fixed in later versions, then why not make RC2 available again???? A
Release Candidate that can't even get to the internet is a pretty big
oversight. Don't ya think.

I don't disagree, and RC2 was made available to a number of testing groups,
just not to all of them. But, that's the nature of beta products, things
don't always work the way they are expected to for all users. As Vista is
nearing release, Microsoft is closing down the preview programs, so everyone
will now just have to wait. Even beta testers are not getting any new
builds.
