Vista won't complete installation

I bought an Asus A7S with Vista Premium preinstalled abut 2 months ago. It
has gradually been hanging more and more often, for no apparent reason. I
have been extremely careful not to download any rubbish and to keep my AVG
Spybot and AdAware up to date, so feel it unlikely that the hanging problem
is self-inflicte4d, although acknowledge that it is possible.

Anyway, the problem is when I am trying to reinstall Vista from the provided
disks. It installs to the point of asking for the drivers disk, installs
heaps of drivers and then restarts.

BUT then it stuffs up--on restart it says "Windows could not complete the
installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the
installation." But each time it restarts ot comes back to this same bloody
message. Ive done it about 5 or 6 times in the last two days. The fiorst
couple times it sort of worked, but all the drivers didnt install, so I have
kept retrying. Its getting worse each time.

Any advice, or do I need to send it back to the Asus? Thanks

Here is some further information:

it instals the drivers, i take the drivers disk out and itr restarts
it restarts a couple times, very slowly, about 5 min between each restart
then i get another restart and 3 messages come up all at once:
one says "Windows Setup Windows is now setting up the following items:
Install the Application
A second one says " Microsoft Windows You must restart the computer to
apply these changes Before restarting save any open files and close all
programs with the option restaret now or later
The third one is a DOS screen, It slowly reveals the following:

so then i click to close the DOS screen and click Restart Now
but that just takes me to a blank screen with a cursor I have to turn the
power off

then of course when i turn it back on it eventually comes to the Welcome
screen then back to the damn
"Windows could not complete the

Somebody shoot me please, put me out of my misery !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
I have a similar problem, except it is with trying to install Vista Ultimate
by upgrading my Vista Home Premium. In other words I am out a few hundred
bucks paid for the Ultimate version, and CANNOT complete the upgrade.
NONE of the Microsoft information is useful, or even refers to the
installatin problems. Sooner or later, someone NOT WORKING FOR MICROSOFT will
probably crack the accursed code and figure out what Microsoft SHOULD have
discovered and corrected. Meanwhile, if I want Vista installed, I have to
wipe out my hard disk and go through installing everything all over again. It
sucks, but we are in the Microsoft universe, and they control it.
If ANYONE reading this has any idea what can be done to successfully
complete an Upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Vista Ultimate without wiping
out all the applications, I will be eternally grateful for the information.
The Microsoft Vista "error messages" are about as useless as mammaries on a
tree.
 
Here are some instructions that I got from working directly with a Microsoft
technician. I broke down and spent the $60 for the technical support because
I have 2 other PC's to upgrade - one from XP and yet another from Vista Home
Premium. The procedure worked for me in upgrading (using Windows Anytime
Upgrade) from Vista Home Premium to Vista Ultimate.

Hints for Upgrade Vista Home Premium to Vista Ultimate

Uninstall all Network Security and Anti-Virus Software (ie: Norton, McAfee)
– make sure you can reinstall the products after the upgrade by redownloading
or acquiring the installation disks.

Uninstall ALL Roxio programs.

Uninstall the following Microsoft Windows components. Control Panel –
Programs and Features. In left pane select – Turn Windows features on or
off. Select Microsoft .Net Framework 3.0 and uncheck XPS Viewer. Select
Internet Information Services and make sure all submenu items are unchecked.
Uncheck Remote Differential Compression. Uncheck Windows DFS Replication
Service. Reboot PC.

Unplug ALL USB devices (including mouse and keyboard) – we will be disabling
these devices later – use the serial ports temporarily for the keyboard and
mouse.

network adapter that you are using to connect to the internet

Using Device Manager – (Start- Control Panel – Device Manager) – DISABLE the
following devices:
Storage Controllers – Microsoft iSCSI Initiator
Universal Serial Bus Controllers – Disable all devices listed

Monitors – Disable or Uninstall device – will affect your
display, but you should be able to run the upgrade.

Stop all 3rd party services running – Start – Run – msconfig
On General Tab – Select – Selective startup – Load system services and
startup items should be checked.

On Services Tab – Select – Hide all Microsoft services – then select Disable
all.

On Startup Tab – Select – Disable All

Reboot PC.

Try the upgrade of Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows Home Vista – GOOD
LUCK.

If the upgrade is successful – your devices should be automatically
reenabled and work successfully. You may need to find an upgraded Vista
driver from you hardware vendor if something is not working properly.
Reinstall any programs you uninstalled.

pages of Microsoft alleged useful information, as well as the few Vista
pundits pontificating occasionally...
