My son has precisely the same problem as Solertia with the added wrinkle that
Visat came pre-installed and he doesn't have an installation disk. The
computer is now 44 days out of warranty, so HP won't help. Does anybody know
how to get an installation disk from Microsoft without having to buy a new
copy of Vista?

Mark - "...My son has precisely the same problem as Solertia ..." explaims
nothing - when referring to a previous post include it in yor post.

HP provides a recovery partition with their computers, usually indicated by
something like the following at boot "Hit F11 for restore..", and include a
utility to copy the recovery partition to removeable media (DVD/CD). . HP
also offers replacement recovery disks via their web site.

Go to www.hp.com - select "Software and Drivers Downloads" option listed on
the right - enter computer info and there will be an option "How to order
recovery disks" available.
