Why is the loading time in Vista with dial-up so awfully slow?
WinME is much faster and I was hoping to improve on that.
Is there any way to speed Vista up?

Harry.

No one uses dial-up. Dial-up, 56kbs is slow. Vista cannot make it any
faster. 56kbs translates into 7KB maximum, including overhead. At that
speed, you can barely keep up with someone typing. (Joking, of course.). You
really need to get DSL, at least. Dial-up costs about $10 a month. DSL is as
low as $20.

Loading time of what? AOL? The operating system? Please clarify so we can
help you.

Loading time of the pages in general and across the board.
I am aware of the dial-up stuation, but don't have access to DSL or better.

Dial up affects loading time of web pages in IE7.
What applications are you having trouble with; and how much RAM, and what
CPU size does your computer have?

Pages in what browser? *Please* provide full details of what you're using
with specifics in your next post. Remember that we cannot see your computer
from here so you need to be specific. We still don't know what you are
using for Internet access (aside from that you're using dialup) - AOL,
Earthlink, Juno, etc. We still don't know what browser you're using or if
you have special software to access the Internet (as with Earthlink, AOL,
or Juno for example). We still don't know what you've done to troubleshoot,
if anything. If using IE7, have you tried with Firefox? If using AOL, have
you tried with IE7? Etc.

Without more details from you, any answers you may get will simply be based
on guesses and that is not very useful for you.

There's plenty of power in this machine.
Just purchased it a few days ago and it's a Dell dual core with 2 GB of Ram
and a 300 GB HD.
It has WinVista H/P&SP1 with IE7 installed and WU is up to date.
Everything is in place and where it ought to be.
The only thing missing is probably my patience.
In time to come I may try the FF.
Thank you, Tyro and Malke for your help, it's very much appreciated.

Harry.
