Chris

this is for my friend so don't have much details about the configure. The
wireless is used at home. But think this is very common issue. Any advice
in general?

Thanks.

usually local access only indicates the connection did not receive all
necessary data from the DHCP server (the router).
I have had times I had to manually configure the IP and DNS settings with
some wireless routers and Vista.
It's like everything else in Vista, it just DOESN'T WORK THE SAME as in XP.
Many routers aren't compatible with Vista, but with manual settings you can
usually get around that.
If you access the router's setup, you can see what the IP, DNS, gateway. etc
should be.

Had same issue on 2 new Laptops. Try to release renew your ip address. Do a
google search for release renew ip and look for your OS. This worked for
me. BTW this was only with Vista.
