Please Help

When the error message pops up, see if there is a place in the lower left to
get online help, or some such thing. If so, click on it and it should/might
take you to various topics on the subject. Try some of the suggestions. I
did, none worked, your results may vary. You are not alone with this problem
;-)

You can try compacting the database. Go to Tools | Options | Advanced |
Maintenance and change the value for compact number from 100 to 1. Then
close WinMail and it will prompt to compact the database. Let it do that
and then reopen WinMail and change that value back to 100. See if that
fixes it.

Otherwise, its probably a big that will be fixed (hopefully) in later
versions.

I hope you are right Steve.........................;-)

well at all............................

See if you can find the message under the Inbox directory in the message
store and if so, then delete it there.

My Vista RC1 is working fine; all except my SBCGlobal Email account. I used
exactly the same setup on the account, which works fine on XP, but not Widows
Mail in Vista.
ATT tells me they "don't support Vista!" What can that mean? Or will a
later Vista fix it?

Its only going to support POP3 accounts, and I don't know if the accounts
you are referring to are POP3 or not. You can usually use IE if they are
not.

Vista Windows Mail also supports IMAP.

Here is the ATT response to not supporting Vista!

Thank you for contacting AT&T Internet Services E-mail Support.

I understand how frustrating it is that you are having problems sending
emails using your Windows Vista email client. I sincerely apologize this
email setup issue has caused you. I recognize the importance of getting this
fixed at the soonest possible time. I will be glad to provide you the
information and guide you to the right direction.

With regards to this issue, I have checked the policies and all our tools to
verify if we support this operating system or this email client, Windows
Vista. Unfortunately Red, we sincerely regret to inform you that this
Operating System or Email Client is not supported at this time.

As much as we want to support your email setup, we cannot make a fair
conclusion as how to configure or check your Windows Vista as we are not
trained with this kind of software. I hope that you understand our
limitations on this matter. I would recommend that you contact the
manufacturer of that software to provide you assistance with your email
client. Here is the number where you can contact Microsoft Technical
Support, 1- 800-936-5700 or at the link: http://support.microsoft.com/

OK one more time. I "compacted the Email data base" but there was actually
nothing there to compact, so it still isn't working, but the ATT message
seems to tell it all.

What a bunch of hooey.

Set up your account in XP with POP3 and SMTP servers and verify it works.
Then set up Windows Mail the exact same way. Then see what the error is.

The AT&T people are clearly clueless. It should work exactly as in XP if
its a POP3 account, as far as I know.

steve

Thanks for the verification of what I thought, too. However that is exactly
what I did- set up the POP and SMTP the same as on XP. The ATT guy (from the
Phillipines!) is supposed to call me on the phone today and "talk me through
it." This should be fun.

OK I got it! Windows Mail has TWO places to enter your password for the SMTP
Send Mail feature. I had the correct password on one place, but when I hit
"settings," the second location had it wrong. When they both agreed, lo and
behold; it looks as though ATT suports Vista whether they know it or not!
Thanks for the help on this forum.

When they say "support" they mean answering technical questions like how to set
up accessing their services on Vista. The help desk employees don't have
walkthroughs for Vista menus and such. It doesn't mean their services aren't
accessible if you're using Vista.
