32-bit vista home premium, intel DG965RY motherboard with intel onboard
graphics media accelerator x3000 [GMA x3000]. seated - correctly, it seems to
me -- evga 7600 GT e-GeForce 256mb pci-e. i cannot force vista to override
the onboard and recognize the video card. i tried to disable the onboard via
the "devices" menu; it apparently had no effect. i was told to accomplish the
disabling via BIOS, and have been given directions, by both intel and my
computer manufacturer, how to do it - both sets of instructions were wrong!
further, both intel and evga tells me the possibility that evga's card is
defective.

please tell me how to enter BIOS and override the onboard and have vista
recognize the video card, or how can i tell whether the video card is indeed
defective (i do not have access to another computer to test the card.)

If the card is not detected at all, even with the onboard video enabled,
either the card is bad or there is a problem with your PCI-E slot, or your
Windows load. IS the card listed in device manager in any way when
installed?

good question - i forgot to mention this important fact in the original post.
the answer is "no" - there is no mention of the existence of this video card
*anywhere*.

you are the third person to allude to the card's defectiveness. what is the
rate of defectiveness in video cards? is this rate dependent on manufacturer?

Not related to the mfg that I've noticed, but with the thousands
manufactured there's bound to be a few bad ones turned out.

I assume you have plugged your monitor into the graphics card and not the
onboard graphics.? If the onboard graphics is active in device manager it
usually means that is the one with the monitor.
Just thought I'd ask.

It's not a vista problem!! It's a bios setup problem. your built in on board
video card is controlled in your bios, and will allow another card to use the
mem,IRQ allocations for video.

If you want to use your ad-on card you will have to turn your on board video
off and set PCI-E to run in your bios.
