ALL I Am Adding Is Windows Live DeskTop: The Web Based OS - Windows Vista,
Hosted On Microsoft Servers!

Hi,

I have some reservations about Microsoft's capability to deliver.

1. After Win2k, everything with XP and Vista has been all about "local"
desktops (caching) and everyone having admin rights, needing a registry
and a .NET Framework, MSDE, MDAC, MSXML, DirectX or whatever. The
dependency tree is huge. It's the exact opposite of what you'd need for
a web based o/s.

2. You have to define Web based o/s? If it means loading a bunch of
WinFS, WinFX, DirectX and XAML surface from a boot device in order to
deliver Microsoft's vision of non-DHTML-non-W3C-non-standards based UI
and rendering elements, again it's the exact opposite of what you'd need
for a true "web" based o/s - note the word "web" there...

In contrast, Linux is already there; their bootable image is light, fast
and based on open-standards. Google also have some good offers. If I was
choosing servers to run these types of services, I certainly would NOT
choose Windows; too bloated, too expensive and not fit for purpose.
Google run on Linux and it's perfect for "web based" services.

You know, posting to newsgroups while drunk is a sure sign you need to drink
less.

Well, I Was *Wondering* When Sum1 Was Gonna Figure Out That, The Web Based OS
WILL BE Competition Driven!

Currently, Microsoft Has The "Jump"!

;-)

View Master... wasn't that some cheesy device back in the 50s / 60s to view
lame slide content from Disney etc.? ;p
Is see Windows Live being about as popular as Windows Bob.

Well... already users of MSN Messenger, that's got about 210 million users -
they'll be upgrading to WLMessenger. Not to mension Spaces - MSN Spaces is
the most used blogging tool in the world, that's soon to become Windows Live
Spaces - so are you telling me it's not going to be popular?

Live Messagener is not a "Live OS".... I'm sure Live Messanger will be
popular. But an OS that's dependent on your connection? Sure cable/dsl is
pretty stable most times but outtages happen. Heck I was down for days when
a drunk driver wiped out cable box for the street. Teleco's are no diff...
lightning strike and the CO node for that area gone and so you sit and wait
til it's back up. S**t happens and I'd not trust a 'net based OS unless I
was nothing but a "surfer".

Peter!

I've Had 2 Computers Struck By Lightning, Knockin'Em-Out For Weeks!

Strangely, My Internet Connection NEVER Quit Working!!!

Imagine That!
