I have a HP printer (LaserJet 2550L) previously using it under a machine
which runs Windows XP. However, when I get this new machine which runs Vista
Home Premium, I cannot use it properly.

When I plug my printer onto my computer, Vista shows that there is a new
hardware and promptly recognize it as HP LaserJet 2550 series. It appears in
the Device Manager under IEEE1284.4 Printing Device. However, I can never
find it out in the "Printer" page nor the printer selection list when I try
to print documents.

This really annoying me and I would like to ask if anyone has similar
problem or anyone knows how to tackle the problem. Thanks very much!

Most modern HP printers install on an OS by disconnecting the power and USB
cable to the unit, running the HP software install CD, then plugging in and
turning on the printer when the software says to. If you do this in a
different order, the printer may well not work correctly.

See Paul's message.

You have to install the HP VISTA software without the printer USB cable
connected to the PC and not plug it in until the installation procedure
tells you to or after [Finish].

You need to disconnect the printer, remove all references to it in
Control Panel / Printers and uninstall any HP Printer software in
Add/Remove Programs. Then reboot again as the installation instructions
say.

Download and use the PCL 6 driver from the HP website:

HP Universal Print Driver for Windows - PCL6 4.0 16 Apr 2007

Click on the Installation instruction TAB to get the instructions.

I rcommend that you right mouse click on the installation file and use
Run as Administrator.
