Is there any way for me to upgrade my version of Home Premium to Ultimate,
without requiring a clean install? A previous attempt at a clean install lost
considerable functionality with my new laptop and the re-installation of
drivers required was above my technical capabilities and my patience
threshold.

I already have purchased Vista Ultimate software. I know that MS offer an
upgrade pack, but do not wish to go to the added expense of purchasing that.
Returning my copy of Ultimate is not an option as I have already openend the
pack.

put your DVD in the drive, when the window pops up choose install,
eventually you will get to a screen which asks you if you want to upgrade or
clean install. select upgrade. The only issue you may encounter is if
your "Home Premium" installation has been upgraded to SP1 and the disk you
bought of Ultimate is not SP1, then you may get an error when upgrading
telling you the version you are tying to upgrade is older than the version
you already have. In that case you may have to uninstall SP1 before
upgrading to Ultimate.
