Quick question for those that have been running RTM. Have there been many
Windows updates driver etc since the release?

TIA

Caesar

There have been some Windows updates, etc. available, however, not enough
for me to stick with RTM... I find Vista just a little too unreliable, lack
of hardware/software support, etc. for me to stick with it for a while. I
switched back to XP... at least things work in XP.

Mostly just definition updates for Windows Defender and a junk mail filter
update For Windows Mail.

On first install there were updates for device drivers (in my case for a SB
Live card, Printer and my Logitech Messenger Webcam - the webcam driver
update however never worked, had to manually install its XP driver instead)
and Defender.

Most of the updates since have been Defender updates. There was one update
for Mail and another for the Malicious Software Removal Tool.

Very few so far. I don't use Windows Defender. I think malware is some
sort of hoax.

Then you've never had to clean an infected machine.

Nothing for the OS on Patch Tuesday this month. Windows Defender updates,
two for Office (all versions). The usual monthly scan for malware. That's
it. This was an extraordinarily light month for all systems. One of my XP
machines had four updates, including Office and the malware tool.

Synapse Syndrome,

What you described is a very simple demonstration for the inherent Security
within Vista and IE 7.

Each time you Boot Vista, automatically Vista silently scans and wipes the
HDD verifying that there have not been any modifications to the OS. Should
any malware or other threats be dangling, instantly Vista self-removes such
threats. Kinda the same thing occurs to many third party applications,
specifically, not certified third party applications; just removed by Vista.

The above is the reason folks complain after they install third party
applications, and then **shortly** trouble and conflicts begin, after Vista
self-eliminated some and/or all of such third party applications code.

Those not-certified nightly builds sure cause folks anguish while running
Vista. The wildest part, those folks assign blame to Vista instead of
accepting responsibility for adding such irresponsible trash as nightly
builds and not-certified third party applications to the most state of the
art OS as Vista.

While running Vista and BitLocker, have no fear of collecting malware and
other threats, providing that you do not install third party application
trash unknowingly inviting tracers and malware. Although, Vista would indeed
remove any such malware…

Soon, our World will know what you and others have experienced while running
Vista ! Ultimate Security !!!

Sweet Home Alabama,

The ability for Vista self-installing device drivers just keeps getting
better and better, especially for x64. Today, I don’t think Vista could
become better with user ease and functionality.

Just verified my Up Date History; reveals two for Vista, quite a few for
Defender, and eleven for hardware, as, nForce HyperTransport Bridge,
ATK - system - ATK0110 ACPI UTILITY, NVIDIA - system - nForce Memory
Controller and others for supporting Nvidia related issues.

Today, Vista is a done deal, polished and shining as a diamond !

RTM=Remote Task Manager

I find you hard to follow. I never got any malware with XP or Server 2003
that AV didn't catch. I used some anti-malware programs for a while after
getting some weird IE toolbar once. I just use AV and a HOSTS file, with
the occasional Ewido online scan.
