I'm trying to unistall Vista from my notebook and install XP but I can't
unistall Vista. I did a backup of Vista but I still can't install XP. Please
help me
Thank you

Is this a new laptop that came with Vista installed on it? If so, and
before you remove Vista, you should make sure that all the necessary
drivers are available for Windows XP! To remove Vista simply boot with
the Windows XP setup cd and at the disk/partition selection screen
select to option to format the partition on which Vista is installed.

Yes it came with my Laptop. I don't know anything about Drivers and I booted
with xp and a blue screen came up with white writing and just stayed there. I
rebooted in safe mode and then normal. What else can I try?
Thanks

You can't "uninstall" Vista in the usual sense of "uninstall".

You have to wipe the drive, and the easiest way to do that is to boot from
the XP CD, start Setup, and when you get to choosing partitions, delete and
recreate the partitions and then format.

This will ensure that the disk is in a condition compatible with XP.

*HOWEVER*, this will also ensure that any data on the drive that isn't
backed up to some other media - like CD, DVD, or some drive not attached to
the latop - will be lost.

If the laptop did not come with any reinstall CDs for Vista, but instead
uses something on the hard disk, you will have no easy or inexpensive way
of getting Vista back on it should you choose to do this. In that case, a
better choice is to get another hard disk, and install XP to that. Set the
original hard disk aside for future use.

But, you *must* ensure that there are XP drivers for the hardware on your
system, and get them before you start. You have to get this information
from the manufacturer's site. Make a CD containing *all* the drivers you
need, or get one from the manufacturer. This includes chipset, video,
audio, network, modem, trackpad, power drivers.

Do NOT proceed until you have collected the drivers, as the laptop won't be
really functional until they are installed. Install XP, then immediately
install the drivers. Start with the chipset drivers, then video, then
network.

If there are no drivers for XP (though there likely are), don't proceed.
You'll never get the laptop to work properly. Instead, get a new laptop
and specify that it does come with XP installed - this is easy to do.

Set the boot mode in bios to boot CD first, then floppy if you have one, and
last would be from the hard drive. Now put the install CD in for XP and
reboot. You will get a message "Press any key to boot from disk" or
something like that. Press a key and install will start. Follow the
prompts carefully.
