I noticed I had 2 identical entries for the flash player 9 activex control
in the add/remove programs list... this annoys the hell out of me! one of
them uninstalls and disappears, the other one WONT leave. it stays there,
and the flash player is apparently not installed because I cant display
flash content in IE7. adobe has an "uninstall flash" utility, that claims to
work when I run it, yet there it is.... staring at me in the add/remove
list!

anyone have any ideas?

I have had problems with Adobe Flash player too.. sometimes it works,
sometimes it doesn't.. personally, I wouldn't worry about the two entries..
re getting Flash player working again, go to Internet Options - Security tab
and reset defaults.. that has worked for me..

Troy

It will stay there because the uninstall files are gone
with the first uninstall you did.
If you can get hold of a Vista capable Tweakui (?)
application you will be able to delete it from within
the Tweak program. This method used to work OK
in XP, see no reason why it wouldn't work in Vista.

What worked for me is the Windows Flash Player 9 ActiveX control content
debugger (for IE) from
http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html .
Downloaded it, ran it, and now am able to see Flash content again in
IE7.

There is no TweakUI for Vista. There are 3rd party programs that have the
functions, at a price. You can go into the uninstall portion of the
registry and remove the entry if it bothers you.

Troy,

If Add/Remove entry is the only thing that annoys you, you can delete it
from registry. ARP uses information stored under

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

to show the list of programs installed. In particular, Adobe Flash Player 9
ActiveX Control information is stored under

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\ShockwaveFlash

You can delete whole ShockwaveFlash key. You might want to backup it prior
to deleting just in case - right click it and select Export. Make sure you
have "Selected branch only" checkbox marked in export dialog so you don't
export your whole HKLM key :-)

Also, there's a utility on Microsoft web site called Windows Installer
Cleanup that can perform removal process more accurately. I was using it to
remove broken installation information before quite successfully. I didn't
use it under Vista however so if you choose to give it a try, make sure you
have recent restore points/backups.

Oh, by the way, you need to run regedit elevated to edit HKLM.

HTH,

Most reports I have seen about TweakVI free are not too complimentary.
Worth a try to see if the free version has the function you need.
