I made a backup of my system disk (C:\) to my data disk (F:\). The data disk
is a hardware RAID5 with a highpoint 2310 RAID controller. The C disk is a
RAID0 from an onboard nForce raidcontroller.

I tried using F8 while booting but the option to restore the C disk was not
available. Also booting from the Windows DVD did not succeed because there
was no restore option available.

I think the problem is that the Highpoint RAID5 controller drivers are not
available while booting. Is there perhaps still a way to restore the backup?

From the Vista DVD did you choose repair computer and follow the links?
CompletePC Restore is one of the items in the System Recovery Options dialog
box.
