vista = titanic

Are you saying the Titanic was a 64 bit ocean liner? Did the passengers
have to activate their tickets when boarding? Was the engine an upgrade to
the previous ship?

Is that what you mean?

I think the OP means your computer has to hit a iceberg and rip open the
entire side of the computer before the Vista OS stops working.

No!

So he didn't mean it will prove to be a huge and disasterous failure...?
;-)

do you see any parallels? :-)

I certainly do. The Titanic was an incredibly well-engineered and vastly
complex piece of technology, just like Vista. It was state of the art for
its day, just like Vista. It was extremely well-protected, just like Vista,
and virtually unsinkable, just like Vista. In fact, if it hadn't have been
for a rare combination of natural forces with human stupidity, it would
likely never have sunk, just like Vista.

About the only difference I can see is that Bill Gates has never boasted
that even God could not crash Vista. And that's likely to be a helpful
difference.

The folks at Cunard didn't see it as a failure. Their business skyrocketed!
White Star Lines, on the other hand, didn't fare so well for a while.

So what are you saying? Apple should see Vista as a good thing?

Excellent. That's a keeper!

What? There were 6 different versions of the Titanic - each just painted up
and bloated in size just to make them look better than the previous Ships of
the Line? That people clamoured to get on board first on Titanic's Beta
Voyage dressed up as a Public Release Voyage?

???????????

BRAVO! BRAVO!

LOL!!!!!!!!!

hey wait.. you really mean this?????

LOOOOOLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pricless...reply.. I will keep this one!

The reason for the destruction of the titanic was arrogance.
They thought the ship was invincible, and they ignored all signs
that warranted alertness and care.

It is the SAME exact thing that Microsoft has done.. they are arrogant,
they did not listen to all the beta testers who warned them.
I am sure some wise people advised another course of action.. but they didnt
listen.
You are PROOF of that arrogance, since you
reflect the same stupid attitude that MS has.
You are so blind you cant even see the mistake, even if I am pointing it out
to you
as clear as can be!

I am afraid vista will have the same exact fate.... but the casualties
will be millions. The price is too high, we could have had wonderous
technologies
.....it could have been much different. I see this putting a 5 year dent (in
the best case)
in the advancment of technology... and 5 years in "computer" time is like
500 years
normal time. The dark ages have begun.. unless there is a solution from
elsewhere..
but I dont see that happening fast.

Yes, and the parallels will apply to any operating system from any
manufacturer.
If the user (Captain) gets overconfident and does not practice safe
computing including but not limited to updates, anti malware tools etc (heed
advice about ocean conditions and be fully aware of the capabilities and
limitations of his ship) doom will probably be soon to come.

You seem to want to focus on potential design issues which may not be as
significant as you want while ignoring the responsibility a user has to use
good judgment and common sense.

The Titanic would probably be seaworthy today if her limitations were
respected.
Do not confuse your inability to properly use a product with design issues.

I notice you use the word "they" while conveniently ignoring who "they" are.
In the case of the Titanic "they" is the captain and crew that ignored
reports of icebergs and also assumed the titanic was unsinkable.

"they" as you use to attempt to confuse is really both Microsoft and the
people who use the computer.
Your need you group the two together while ignoring the individual
responsibilities can serve little other purpose other than confuse.

Anyone using any operating system from any source who ignores warnings and
fails to to use due diligence is nearly certain to have problems.

The Titanic would probably still be seaworthy if the captain had used due
diligence.
So, by your comparison, Vista will live a long strong life.

Or are you suggesting the Titanic still would have sunk even if the captain
had heeded warnings and respected the capabilities and limitations of the
Titanic?

LOL! I threw my Vista DVD in the water and it sank - just like Titanic!

The "makers" of the Titanic did no such thing! How ignorant you are. So
sad.

The titanic was a good ship, it was human arrogance after it was finished
that brought destruction. There are other ships of that era and of
comparable size and technology that did not sink.

In the case of vista the arrogance was there from the beginning and is still
continuing.
