Recently I purchased An HP Laptop at Office Depot. I had to return the
computer because of the hell Vista caused. Is anybody else having
problems with this operating system? I spent most of two days trying to
install programs and write applications in this system before I realized
that it was not going to happen. I HATE MICROSOFT!!!!!!!

Vista is far worse than your few day experience shows....
IF you had come here earlier and asked I would have told you to avoid it.

Chose XP for your OS.... and forget about vista forever

Perhaps you would be interested in Open Source. Check out Ubuntu at
www.ubuntu.com. It's free, can be installed on as many computers as you
like, has no activation, becoming genuine or any other DRM nonsense. Not
only that, once you've installed it, you have access to over 25,000 free
programs.

They are NOT all free, and many of them are utilities which the average user
would never use. Read the info about what is contained in the Ubuntu
depositories..

your friend vista will one day turn around and bite you

but you have to start using for more than newsgroup trolling and playing
solitaire.

I have had very few problems. Some users will have many some none.
Some with problems will resolve them with ease, some will just blame MS,
Vista and everything else they can see, and some will not be able to resolve
their problems.

If you want to move forward, likely you will be able to. If you want to
go back to DOS, that might be more difficult.

Good Luck no matter what path you chose.

It's a poor workman who blames his tools.

If you write applications, you had best find another line of work. Over
time, XP (and prior) systems will diminish in popularity and you won't have
any potential customers.

A few are commercial products that are not free and they're clearly
marked as such. All the programs available for Windows aren't all for
the average user either so what is your point?

My point is that not all in the depositories are free. In fact, the best
ones have to be bought. The number '25000' is misleading at best.

Did you ever think something could be wrong with the laptop? People I know
that have bought new laptops with Vista haven't had any problems.

The "best" ones being? "Best", by the way, is a subjective judgment. The
number 25000 is not misleading, your sour grapes notwithstanding.

No sour grapes. Any Windows user can download a multitude of stuff too. Most
choose not to do so..
