Vista stops pre-installation

My Vista setup stops pre-installation. I get past the point where it says
"Windows is loading Files..", then I get the flashy background with a mouse
cursor, but after that it just stops. I can move the mouse, but there's
nothing to click on. I waited for 15 minutes, but after that it's pretty
useless to wait.

I have an AMD64 2800+ on an Asrock K8S8X with 512 MB, with a 6800LE.

Clean installs tried with both 32bits & 64 bits versions gotten directly
from MS, tried different DVD players, different DVDs, different DVD burning
programs, tried it with CnQ disabled, tried it with a different GFX, etc...
I have no USB devices attached, except for a plain mouse & normal keyboard.

Sounds like it could be a SiS chipset incompatibility bug? Microsoft had
better fix this, they've been working on it for 5 years and they can't even
get it to install! I've been running a stable XP on that same system for
years...

You're right, with a blank screen in front of me, I went to do my laundry,
and when I came back after 30 minutes there it was!

MS is stupid instead of just showing the console, so that people know what
Windows is doing... WE NEED MORE OPTIONS!! Less newbie-friendly installation
please!
