I heard it has been out a few weeks however it didn't show as available on
my 32bit laptop untill last week and it still isn't showing as available on
my 64bit machine. I want to install 3D Mark Vantage and that requires
Service Pack 1. When can I expect service pack 1 to show as available and
can I download it seperately and install?

You could try typing "SP1" in the "Search For" box at the top of this page.
You will find many threads already covering this issue.

You can download the full standalone version (see his link from my website:
http://vistasupport.mvps.org/download_full_copy_of_SP1.htm )

Make sure you also visit the two links on that webpage prior to installing
SP1

I'm afraid I don't know the MD5 checksum, I certainly haven't come across
it.

John,

Do you know the MD5 checksum for the standalone file for the Windows
Vista Service Pack 1 [Five Language Standalone (KB936330)] file?

I'll be burning this file on a CD to provide to a beginner using Vista
32 Home Basic, and want to make sure they have the best possible chance
at success the first time around when installing SP1. I don't want a bad
download to add on any complications, so I'd like to verify the file is
free from errors.

Also, will their Vista have to take possession of the file before it can
be used? If so, I'll have to write out some quick instructions for them
on how to do that as well.
