I have installed new speakers and a woofer to Desktop with Vista and I can't get any sound. I have unchecked mute setting. any suggestions?

Hi and welcome to the forum

Have you checked that the speakers are working..? Plug them into an iPod or an MP3 player and see if you get sound..Also try plugging a set of headphones into the computer and see if you get any sound...Are you using connection at the back of the computer or connection on the front of the computer...Look for the Volume Icon on the tasbar and see if you have the volume turned up...Normally the first thing to check.

Thanks for your prompt reply
Yeah, the speakers work OK, I have tried back and front connections and volume is on full.

Are you using the onboard sound on the motherboard or a soundcard that you plug in???

Infact can you list the motherboard if possible, soundcard if you have one, what make the speakers and sub-woofer are, whether its 2.1 , 5.1, or 7.1 cheers.

It's onboard sound, I don't know the motherboard. The speakers are Phillips 5.1
I'm pretty sure there must be another mute setting somewhere.
Thanks

Have you been in the control panel under sound and set the playback device????

If your using an analogue system make sure its not set to Digital.

Just a double check, make sure you haven't disabled the onboard sound in the BIOS.

Edit: Check in device manager in the control panel as well to see if you have any exclamations, also try updating the sound driver.
