Not sure if this is a hardware problem or a Vista problem. I am however
leaning toward ahrdware because this can happen sometimes during post. If
anybody has experienced the same problem pls any help would be appreciated.

If your computer shuts down randomly and during the POST, it is most
definitely hardware and not software. The cause could be overheating, a bad
processor, bad motherboard, or any combination of failing hardware. There
just isn't enough information in your post to guess. Here are some general
hardware troubleshooting steps:

Standard disclaimer: I can't see and test your computer myself, so these are
just suggestions based on many years of being a professional computer tech;
suggestions based on what you've written. You should not take my
suggestions as a definitive diagnosis. Testing hardware failures often
involves swapping out suspected parts with known-good parts. If you can't
do the testing yourself and/or are uncomfortable opening your computer,
take the machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your local
equivalent of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad). If possible, have all your data
backed up before you take the machine into a shop.

Malke thank you for your response... sorry for forgetting to post system
specs and BSoD codes. I also forgot to put in that the PC randomly boots on
its own. I have all of the boot on lan and pci turned off so i have no idea
there.

Asus M2N-E MB
Athlon 64 x2 dual core 6000+
2 gigs ram
Cooler Master- eXtreme Power 500W PSU
BFG- Nvidia Geforce 8400GS PCIe graphics card
Vista home premium 32bit

System runs cool at around 30 C. on processor and MB runs at 28 C.

last time i had the BSoD microsoft had no knowledge in the database for that
erroe code. 0x001003c4 not sure if this will help. I have run a memory test
and defrag along with the stock error check all came up clean.
angain any help would be mmuch appreciated.

well, we got a vista system, stupidly, and now wish we never had! it shuts
down randomly, hangs up .... comes up with a blue screen saying "preparing
for a physical memory dump" - then on restart it goes as far as a teal
colored screen after the password screen and not any further. and then it
goes into a loop where this happens as many as five or six times until it
decides to boot!

it seems to be when i have more than a few things going at once, apparently
its cuase vista is a memory hog, but i say its just shit!!!

Certainly sounds like hardware to me. Sorry, but that's not enough of the
BSOD error for me to help. You could go to this website and see if you
recognize any of the Stop Errors:

You mean that the computer is actually turned off and then turns itself on
again? Crazy. I don't know, but it certainly doesn't sound like Windows to
me.

It can happen at any time during post or beyond post. Sometimes the system
seems to have power fulxuations. Fans speed slows noticeably and sytem
restarts at whatever time the power flux happens. I got a new PSU yesterday
and this problem has not happened but the random self-boot and shutdowns have
continued.

Seraphimon,

Your computer cannot just turn itself on unless you are sleeping or
hibernating. Otherwise, it sounds to me like you have a hardware problem,
either a bad piece of hardware or heat related.

yeah I'm troubleshooting piece by piece right now... I read an article that
stated my grounds may be completing a circuit or something so i'm going to
pull the board out and check all my grounds. It's not heat related at all I
got 2 more fans for my case and the cpu and mb are running at below 80
degrees F now.
