Vista shows incorrect amount of RAM.

My PC has 4, 1G RAM Modules totalling 4G's. My system BIOS also confirms
that I have a total of 4G's, but Vista only indicates that I have 3.25. Is
this normal or is there something else I need to do?

Thanks

It is normal. To find out why it is normal, search for the many previous
explanations.

Richard,

Thanks for a more "professional" answer but though it is "normal", is there
a fix so it will show all, am I acutally using all or have I just wasted
money for 2 more G's of RAM?

By the way, I'm using 64-bit Ultimate.

Why do you keep responding? Just ignore me and stop worrying about my
questions and go on to doing better things.

I'm trying to tell you how to find the information your looking for more
quickly. It's common practice (at least by people who bother to research
proper newsgroup usage) to search the forums before posting, it is very
unlikely that you are the first to have the question/problem your having.
Not only will you get an answer faster, you won't clog up the forum with the
357th post of the same question. Ignoring group netiquette, being a general
jerk, and doing what ever the hell you want will likely make allot of people
either ignore your postings or block you altogether.

Now the details come out. Why didn't you say that at the beginning - where
it is important.

Seeing as how Vista Ultimate 64 bit will handle more RAM than you (and your
closest friend) can likely afford to buy, I would say that you should check
your M/B information for compatibility problems.

BTW... you left out the most important info from your original post... x86
will only show approx. 3GB RAM even with 4GB's installed. x64, depending on
which flavor of Vista one has installed, will handle much more. I think,
though I could be mistaken, that even Home x64 handles 8GB's minimum... but
if your BIOS is grabbing a chunk... then you'll have less than you think no
matter how much RAM you have installed on either x86 or x64. Again, could be
mistaken on that...

I think this is a case of no personal skills techies that just can't help
trying to make people feel stupid. That's why I don't hire hard core techies
in my consulting business. They just don't know how to talk to people. There
is a way to make people "get the pojnt" with being an ass about it.

Hi Greg,

The WOW starts NOW.

12 replies and no answer, WOW, maybe number 13 is lucky (thats me). I think
you need to find in your BIOS something that looks like "DRAM Over 4G
Remapping". I don't know what motherboard you have but that is what my
motherboard calls it. Incidently I also believe if you have a 3d Graphics
Card then this memory also totals to your 4GB limit. So i guess you also
have a 512MB graphic card.

Anyway, I'm just guessing. I hate to join the argument but i think the
other guys are right. Your best chance of an answer is Google and find
someone else who has experienced the problem. You can start at the NVidia
forum as I have seen this come up a few times but never paid much attention.

Best Regards,
Mr Slartybartfast.

Yup, all because the OP failed to provide some crucial info about his OS,
had he done that a proper answer would have been provided very quickly.
