I'm running 32-bit Vista Home Premium on an HP Laptop that's about 9 months
old. After installing Service Pack 1, whenever the laptop goes into standby
or "sleep" mode after a period of inactivity it won't wake up. When I run my
finger across the touchpad to wake up the laptop all the little blue lights
(an HP thing I guess) light up, which is the normal "wake up", but the
screen remains blank...no curser, nothing. The only thing I can do is press
the power button for a hard shutdown, and then start the laptop up again.
One time it started up ok. Another time it went to a "startup repair"
process. In any case, reverting back to the restore point right before
installing Vista Service Pack 1 fixes the problem. I've tried installing the
Service Pack twice with the same results (and the same "restore" solution).
So, my question is, assuming that Service Pack 1 in a very important windows
update, is there anything I can try to fix this "wake up" problem? I guess a
second question would be, just how important is Service Pack 1, and is it a
mistake to move forward without it?
Thanks,
Bob
