'Dave Wood [MS said:

{C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search}is
not a good idea as it will most likely prevent indexing from working
ever
again if you want to re-enable it. The right way to completely reset
the
index is to go to the Indexing Control Panel -> Advanced -> and select
"Restore Defaults".
Also I wouldn't recommend resetting the the "Index this file for
faster
searches" setting on every file. If you want to change which folders
are
indexed, use the Indexing Control Panel. If you want to disable
indexing
completely, use the Services Control Panel.
Having said all that, I'm afraid I don't have a great explanation why
you
are seeing only blank icons in search results. I'll ask around ...

Hi Dave,
When you have Indexing disabled, it will be ok to delete the data
location. When you re-enable it, it will automatically rebuild itself.
It is a more thorough and drastic way of doing it, but it usually helps
when there is a major corruption problem. I tested it on my system and
it rebuilds everytime. Your suggestion is the safest way of doing it
though. Sometimes you just need to bring out the sledgehammer. (haha)
