Vista seams slow

Hi All
I posted this earlyer today but it never showed up in my reader,so I will
try again.
Vista is a bunch slower when I copy and paste from my storage drive on my pc
to a external usb hard drive.
I copied a folder 4.74 gig from my internal storage drive to my external USB
hard drive.here are the times it took.
XP = 4min.50 sec.
Vista = 6 min.
that's a lot of difference for a system that is supposed to be better.
Any thoughts on why,every body else having this problem or is it just my pc?

Is this for a clean install or an upgrade install? After my upgrade install
the computer ran very slowly, and after I re-did it as a clean install it
ran much faster, but not obviously faster than XP.
