Hi, I have installed Vista no problem but cannot find a driver for my Scanner
or printer , I've contacted Canon and Epson and both no use, do not advise
trying to install, my Symantec Anti Virus will not load, my Zonealarm will
not load, I've been on 7 days with it. most of the software will not run on
Vista so I beleive I cannot realy try the operating system fairly.
Could someone advise as to how to remove the safe way, I have Vista Beat 2
installed on a second hard drive partition, when i boot i get the choice of
operating system, Microsoft Windows or Previous version which is my XP.

Hope somebody can help, i just want to remove without problems.

You may simply use your partitioning software to either delete or reformat
the Vista partition, that is the easy part. But Vista also changed the boot
process by adding the boot manager that allows you to decide between which
operating system into which you wish to boot. To rectify that you will need
to use BCEDIT which is a command line function, or if this seems a little
complex (it is, trust me) use a free utility such as EasyBCEdit or
VistaBootPro to do the same thing from a graphical user interface.

Outside of just giving up, you don't really say what's not working since we
don't know what your trying to run. I've 2 scanners, an epson and canon,
both work fine, even got my photosmart printer working. As for firewall,
vista's is good enough to do the job.. AVs, avast works well... avg works
with the windows update. Unless you really need the HD space, why not tough
it out and who knows, maybe with the good ppl here can get your hardware
working and some of the software.

What are the model numbers on your working Canon and Epson scanners. I'm
looking to add a scanner that will work with Vista Beta 2. Thanks.

Did you search the Epson CD for TWAIN DS driver for 1) printer 2) scanner
and did you install by browsing as I suggested?

Symantec definitely has an AV version that *will load no question about it.
ZA I have no idea. Also my friend, many people use Avast and a panoply of
other AV apps that you can do search for on this or the Vista general group
that work in any build of Vista.

one's an old epson 1250 perfection photo and the other is a canon 4200F (til
my 9900F arrives). I've heard others have epson 3170s and 4x80s working
also.

What scanner & printer do you have? I used the
Windows XP drivers for my Epson 3170 scanner and
it works fine. My Epson C84 ink jet has a
driver included in Vista and it works, too.

Boot to XP, insert the DVD with Vista on it.
go to a CMD prompt, go to X:\boot\ on the DVD, type bootsect /nt52 C:

You may recieve an error the bootsect is protected, but it will complete.
Reboot the Machine if all has gone well you will no longer see the bootmenu
and only have an entry for XP.

Now you may dlete the boot folder (system, protected) from the XP partition.
Format the Vista partition from XP and you are ready.

I have VistaBootpro downloaded in prepartion.
Can this be installed on the XP hard disc and the HD where Vista is installed?

I know I would benefit from a GUI for any edits needed before a fresh
install of Vista when RC1 is released. Apologies for asking within this post
but the same applies to me hoping to do things in the correct order safely.

Hi Pete M
I have tried to install my Norton 2004, it will not
install, I've contacted Norton and apart from having what I would call Beta
software they can run on my computer, but I have to sign up to it to get it
they cannot help me, at least they are developing usable software. I ended up
installing free anti virus.
My printer is an Epson R220 less than a year old, got Email back from Epson,
basically if I read between the lines ( Tough) and said do not attempt to
install on Vista, I did, printer works in a fashion but ink monitor will not
load, I get a Windows needs to install a driver for unknown software, but
does not state what software its on about, got yellow question mark in
Device Manager but it still doesn't say what it is.
My scanner is a Canon 3200F, it just won't install at all, I followed
instructs from a member when i asked for help, all seemed well and got
message it could not load driver.
My Office 2007 Beta would not load either. At first i was pleased with the
install of Vista but I'm not too impressed with it, I know its still in the
beta stages but apart from the safety notices poping up every two seconds
when you try to install or alter anything , which I think is a good idea,
saves on blue screens and adds to stability, they have changed System restore
but not for the better I think.

All in all XP for me, but I did not like XP at first when I went from ME to
it, time will tell.

Hi CH,
thanks for the info, yes I did the Twain DS, all seemed to go
well, I thought great, but at the end it still said windows encounted an
error and scanner still wont work, but I thought thats what it said about my
printer and the printer does work in a fashion, scanner is still no good with
Vista, I have been onto Canon and they suggested not to try install but keep
an eye on there web site for possible updates, epson as I said in earlier
posting basically said not in so many words ( tough).
Thanks for your help anyway, apart from the probs I've had I'm not too
ompressed with Vista, If I'd been able to install and run for a while ok, I
wanted to run everything including the office beta and IE 7 I've been running
for about 4 months now. give it a go instead of running XP all the time and
Vista when I felt like it.

Kind regards and thanks for your time

I don't know. When I install another operating system to set up a multiboot
scenario, I always hide the existing system partitions when I install. Then
I use a third party boot manager. This way, the boot files of each
operating system that is previously installed are not visible to the new one
and therefore, remain intact and unmolested. So much easier!

I share some of your pain. I have yet to find a way to get one of my HP
scanners to work with Vista.

Ko had a good uninstall route; an alternate is also this one:

1. Backup, backup, backup
2. Reboot and Boot to your XP CD-ROM
3. Start the Recovery Console
4. Run Fixboot
5. Run fixmbr to reset the master boot record
6. Exit the Recovery Console
7. Reboot
8. To remove the extra entry, edit the boot.ini file to remove the
"Microsoft Windows Longhorn" entry.
9. Format Your Vista Partition

I don't know how you got your 4200f working. Mine does not and Canon says
they have no information on if they'll even produce a Vista driver.
