I installed windows Vista last night on my PC and its running ridiculously
slowly (the PC itself is very close to being top spec) what do you recomend
to get my PC running smoothly again? Also when I was installing it I saw that
it backed up all the old windows files to Windows.old is it safe to delete
these?

Cheers

Hello D501,

What's your hardware, RAM, Processeor etc.? What's your rating from Windows
Experience Index?
If you don't need data from it and won't go back to the previous installed
OS you can delete windows.old from the disk.

Best regards

From your post, it is obvious that you upgraded from your prior OS, and that
the upgrade was Vista x32.

Having said that, slow operation with either the x64 or x32 OS is generally
due to incompatiilities in software and/or drivers. The x32 version is more
forgiving in this regard, but Vista still can be picky.

If you do not have any luck with the usual changes, you may have to do a
custom (clean) install, then reinstall your programs after you check to see
if any of them is on the trouble some list. Good luck.

My recommendation: Ditch Vista =)

perform system cleanup.
then use a defrag program.
I use Auslogics Disk Defrag

also usually more memory will help.

I had the same problem too. Ends up the phishing filter on McAfee was interfering with the phishing filter on Windows. I disabled the one on McAfee and what a difference it made.
