I have the VISTA RTM downloaded 11/23/2006 (very cool).
Installed on a Compaq Presario V2582us.
When I select SHUTDOWN; windows shuts down but the machine is still running.
All wireless, audio, power on lights are on.
The video appears to shutdown and there is no hard drive activity.
I have to hold the power button until the power kills.
This also happens with RESTART.

Any ideas,
Frankm

I am having exactly the same problem. However this has only just started
to happen after I upgraded the graphics drivers (NVIDIA 8800). I press
shutdown and windows seem to shutdown but the computer stays on...
So that problem really is that it shuts down after a very long time...

The performance logs might tell you what is causing it. Control Panel>
Performance Information>Advanced Tools>View Performance Events in Log.

There should be some items listed in the 'shutdown' category.

Same exact problem here. I have tried new board and gpu drivers, nothing. It
seems this came after the last Nvidia driver found and installed by Vista.
Nothing of importance in my logs... Come on MS, step in.
