Loaded Vista Beta from disc and made the mistake of not installing cleanly.
Have had lots of problems. Discussed this with tech and deceided that as I
had just downloaded and burnt to disc the RC1 Version it would be better if I
installed it. Got a dialog box saying "Enter new serial number". This I did
but could not get the "GO" button to highlight, tried going into "Safe Mode"
to see if it would work there but still no good. Any suggestions, have tried
getting help from the original person at Vista but an not getting any
response.

Either you are not typing the Product Key correctly, which is very easy to
do since "B" looks like "8" or your Product Key is for a different version
of Vista than what you installed. Most of the Product Keys issued to
members of the CPP are for Vista Ultimate.

When I was told that RC1 was available for download it was also stated that I
should use the key that was sent to me and which was written on the box that
I received the disc in. Also the e-mail included the same key number.

These are all true. But you don't address whether you installed a different
version of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, etc...) or if you inadvertently
mis-typed the Product Key when you entered it.

The Product Keys issued to all the members of the CPP are for Vista
Ultimate, can be used to activate up to ten different computers and can be
used to reactivate the same computer an unlimited amount of times. So if
you have installed Vista Ultimate, are not mis-typing the Product Key and
the Product Key has not been used on ten computers, it should work. If it
doesn't, report it to Microsoft as a bug.

Yes I was allowed ten installations but only activated one. Will report it to
microsoft as a BUG. Thanks very much.
