When I attempt to install Vista it fails when copying files. It only get to
about 40% then cancels...

Is there something I am doing incorrectly?

It's not you or others who had similar problems it's just the
Vista RC1 problem... mostly. Have burned the DVD yourself
or got it from Microsoft?

I had the same issue last night at 14%. Felt it was the DVD +R which had the
issue so created a new ISO with a DVD -R and that one salied through ok. I
had downloaded the ISO file from uSoft.

I had a similar issue with the instal failing 3 times at 69%. The hard drive
I was using was in a cradle and I have previously used this as an external
drive.

Finally I tried the same self burned DVD in an other machine and the instal
sailed through first time. The compatibility test passed the first machine
but not with that particular hard drive in place so not sure if it was an
issue reading the DVD or if Vista is particularly fussy about hard drives.

I did notice Vista did refuse to format over an exsisting FAT partion though.

Make sure you burn the ISO to DVD at 1x speed - it is in the recommendations
and I had problems before I eventually burned one at single speed
