Hi,
Answers aren't given by email, you have to come back to the group. That
said, freezing can have many causes. The main ones are faulty hardware, bad
video drivers, and malevolent software, though it is not limited to just
these. You need to diagnose which one is the cause. Here are some general
guidelines:
- If you upgraded from an existing installation of XP, did you ensure that
the system is free of viruses and adware/spyware before doing so? Did you
also run a compatibility check to see if there were any known issues with
the existing installed software?
- Have you tried more recent drivers from the card manufaturer (ATI)? The
9550 is supported, so it should work with Vista. Do you see any yellow bangs
in Device Manager indicating a problem?
- What software have you installed under Vista? Some programs, especially AV
software, are not compatible yet and can lock the system up tight.
- If you can, do a clean install of Vista to an empty volume. If the
problems still occur there, then it is more likely to be a hardware
compatibility issue, possibly faulty or incorrect timing settings in the
system BIOS. Disabling BIOS antivirus detection during setup and disabling
rom shadowing can help.
