I tried to install the 64 bit RC1 and am not able to. I get through the
install and on the initial reboot I end up in a BSOD. I also was not able to
boot into my WinXP partition anymore. Very scary. I installed the 32 bit and
that is working but seems to not like Avast anti-virus. Beta 2 works well
with Avast so I am not sure what is going on. Any suggestions? Would like to
get 64 bit running. I am running a Pentium D 3.00 GHz and the motherboard is
an Intel D945pvs. All are 64 bit capable.

Thanks,

JonK

Avast works OK with 5728 (RC!) 64 bit but maybe it needs to be reinstalled
when you change from 32 bit to 64 bit. Were you trying to upgrade a 5600 or
5728 32 version, or doing a clean instal? Colin

Hi Colin,

I was doing a clean install. The update option has been unavailable to me
each time. Not only would I end up with the install not completing totally
but each time going to a BSOD but also the boot manager got messed up too and
I was not able to access my XP partition with all my real day to day data! I
ended up doing a install of the 32 bit version and also formatting the vista
partition to clear everything out. At the end of that install I was good
again. A working RC1 32 bit and I can now get back into my XP partition to my
real data. Gotta say I was scared there for a few moments. I really want to
work with the 64 bit RC1 but I seem to be blocked. Thanks for your feedback.
