Vista RC1 5600 - No sound

Computer: HP Pavilion zv6000, 512 Mb. RAM (more to be added!)
Problem: No sound at all.

Vista (RC1 5600) reported nothing during install. Audio was totally
overlooked. Where to go from here...?

Install audio drivers for your device. If you cannot find vista drivers,
use XP ones, they should work.
 
run WindowsUpdate from the Startmenu.

right-click Computer -> Manage and locate Device-Manager,
see what it says about sound devices. If they are listed right click and
update drivers.

It will look at the web.

Some Sound-Devices need special drivers from Microsofts Website.

If thhis all doesn't work look in your manual what soundcard exactly you
have and write here the name of the Card. Maybe the Manufacturar has some
drivers.

But always first try Windows-Update, it delivers a lot drivers for unknown
devices.

My old Logitech Quickcam for Example was first not working, after
WindowsUpdate it does!

Raised a bug in Beta 2 about this, Device Manager shows the driver is
installed, I even get the VU meters showing sound when I play music,
nothing from the speakers.

I got a feedback email requesting information, then that it was fixed in
RC1, the links did not work of course (as I am MSDN, not Connect).
Frankly, I'm not going to re-raise the bug report, as Jim Alchin's open
letter to the TechBeta testers, told me that Tech Beta were doing such a
great job, he was not interested in my bug reports. Screw Him....

As for your problem, ditch the buggy MS audio drivers, and use the
manufacturer driver. It's how I have to get my audio working after each
build gets loaded onto my Vaio Laptop...
