Can anyone tell my why Vista only recognizes 2 gig of RAM, even when I have
4 gig installed?
My BIOS sees 4 gig. I may not be the smartest person in the world, but why
would a MB manufacture sell a MB that supports up to 8 gig ram, when the OS
only sees 2 gig?

Any help or explanation will be appreciated.

The OS will see more then 2GB - it should display in the UI up to 3.12GB on
a 4GB system
This issue is covered in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article

If you have 4GB installed and only see 2 then there is something wrong with
your system and not an OS issue.

Systems with over 4GB require the x64 (64-bit) version of Windows Vista.

There's soemthing screwy. Check the BIOS settings - make sure they are
correct. Go over the motherboard manual. You might try "default" or
"optimal" settings if the BIOS offers those options. Remember to save the
BIOS settings before exiting.
 
Not that it helps, but I recently added 2 GB of RAM to my 1 GB, and Vista HP
sees all 3 GB.

Do you have different size modules? My directions said to install the
largest ones in bank 0.

With some motherboards it is best to install RAM modules in identical pairs
according to the manual's directions.
