after installing vista 5384 and installing the vista drivers from ATI for the
radeon 9600 the monitor screen flickers every 2-3 seconds, I have tried all
the various refresh rates and resolution settings but the flicker persists, I
have it set up on a dual boot system with XP and everything else seems to
work incredibly well just the screen problem in vista, when I boot to XP the
flicker goes. viewsonic dont seem to have any vista drivers available, anyone
got any ideas on a fix for this?

thanks

if you have the TI control panel running in the tray, might try exiting it and see if there is any improvement.
it is suspected of causing problems like hanging the system and causing blank screens for short periods (seconds).

Yup, also have a radeon 9600XT and in 5384 I get a black stripe (about 1 -2
inches thick) that flashes in random places on screen. The mouse also freezes
for the duration of this flash.

Here's the "fix":

Just update the driver either to the one that came with windows or to the
one from ATI's website, and the problem goes away AS LONG AS YOU DON'T
RESTART WINDOWS. Once you do, the problem comes back. Hibernation does not
cause the comeback, so use that.

Hope that helps.

NEED THE DUAL BOOT OPTIONS SO I CANT JUST USE HIBERNATE, BUT THANKS, THE FIX
DID WORK. GUESS i WILL HAVE TO WAIT FOR AN UPDATE.

I have a radeon 9800 pro and im having the same flicker problem. Tried ATI
and vista drivers, still having the problem. Any word on a fix for this?

OK i have a temporary fix. go to the task manager and ens the process
"taskeng.exe" that has consistantly stopped the flicker problem in my computer

You can add me to this list, same problem.
I have also posted under another topic "flashing screen after installation"
about this, so it seems we not alone.
So is it only ATI user that are effected, or is there Nvidia or other Brand
card users out there with this problem, or a solution or fix to this
flash/flickering?

will try your suggestion

Thanks very much, It worked.
There where a few of these taskng.exe instances running in task manager,
some did not show the option end taks, the first 1 i found that i was able to
end task did the trick and the 2+sec flickering went away till the next
reboot.

Now question, Why, and What did we end, cause ther is more of these
taskeng.exe's running at the same time??

I'm using dual Dell LCD monitors which is causing huge headaches. Not only
do I get the flickers, but I also have to reset my extended Desktop every
time I log back in. To make it worse, it's actually a laptop that I dock
every morning and then use every night at home. Every day the ritual is to
boot the machine, and then reset my screen.

So I need the old profiles. XP did this great. Vista is completely
challenged by this. ATI drivers, Vista Drivers, they are all broken. HELP!
