I agree with your comment, in that I understand that the folder is just an
icon for a storage collection point of information and that executution of
activity is by directed action from applications or scripts, Mr. Rogers. My
basic problem is simple: Even though I direct (as in point to selected
external drive) location of application/program installation under a single
user profile, Vista dumps application launch icons on all users desktops
under the public folder, and if you tamper with icons as you suggested in
your original reply to my first post, such as by moving/deleting/copying or
editing priviledges, it corrupts app. Simply put-Vista is too helpful and
dumps program launch icons, via public folder, on everyone's desktop and I
can't figure out how to defeat that function. Thanks. vr Barry

When you install a program, a lot of times the installation routine will
give you a choice of installing for just your user or all users. If you
are choosing all users, then the shortcuts to the executable will be
placed on all users' desktops and all users will be allowed to use the
program. Sometimes you aren't given a choice and the installation
routine just does what it wants. Please note that this is not the
operating system (Vista) doing this; it's the way the program's
installation routine was coded.

Does your issue happen with only one program or all of them? If with
only one, contact the program's tech support for issues with their
software. If with other programs, then there may be something wrong with
your path and we'd need more information to untangle it.

Thanks for trying to help, Malke-installs putting icons in public folder
happens with multiple programs, ranging from Adobe Photoshop to Sims2. In
each case, I was signed on in particular profile using administrator rights,
and directed install to either an external Seagate FreeAgent drive under a
targeted folder, or to the C drive, under that specific user's profile and a
targeted folder, and then tried again to their my docs folder.. same results
each time (i.e program launch icons on both computer user's desktops, and if
you tamper with icons, program gliches and the non installing desktop-in
place of moved icon, leaves behind a wordpad script file that if you kill,
trashes related application. Does that help? thanks again.
