hi i have just purchased vista and tried to install it onto my computer and
when it gets to expanding files it either finishes that bit then gives me a
blue screen of death or it will just freeze halfway though it.

i have tried to do it as an upgrade but when i go to install xp sp2 it gets
half way though that and says it cannot complete then i get bsod's again.

Windows Vista Ultimate Retail Edition
mother board: asus m2n sli deluxe
memory: 2x 512mb
graphics: radeon x800 gto

thanks in advance

Shot in the dark...
Are you attempting to install to a SATA drive?
If so, have you downloaded the NForce 570 chipset drivers for Vista
available from NVidia downloads?
Both RAID and SATA-IDE drivers are available in the download and may be
needed if the install seems to fail either at the first attempt to write to
the hard drive, or when Vista first tries to boot from the hard drive.

I'm aware of the drivers because I'm getting a M2N-E which uses the same
chipset. My board has not arrived, so I don't know if the drivers are
needed.

Of course, if you're not trying to install to a SATA drive, pardon the
interruption :)

Sometimes the installation has difficulty reading from certain DVD drives. I
had the same problem so I copied the contents of the Vista DVD to my hard
drive and did the upgrade from there.

Regards,

Stuart.
