My PC is a SONY Vaio, with WMM 6.0 and Vista Home Premium. I'm using a Flip
camera and saving the videos to my computer--they save to "my Documents".
I've spent some time editing the videos on WMM but when I closed and reopened
it, the whole storyboard was replaced by big red X's. If I click on the X to
locate the missing file, I don't have the option of going into "My Documents"
to get the videos I had saved.
If I add my Flip camera through it's USB, I can find the videos using the
"browse for missing files" option. If I find it, it sometimes adds to the
storyboard and works but sometimes doesn;t.

My question is: Do I always have to keep the Flip camera on while working
with WMM? Why do my videos disappear? My video files are avi type.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Just to verify...did you Right Click the Red Xs?

Are the .avi files in My Documents complete and
playable in WIndows Media Player when the camera
is not connected?

It may be necessary to convert the .avi files to .wmv
so they will be compatible with Movie Maker. The
following software and instructions will help you do
that:

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I right clicked the X's and the .avi files play
fully in Media Player.

Not sure what to do next.

What to do next?

Try converting the files to .wmv and re-import them into Movie Maker.
