I have Vista premium 32 bit, I want the 64 bit version of premium. My friend
said he paid $10 for shipping of the 64 home edition but paid no other cost.

1. do i have to pay for a $160 upgrade to 64 or can i also pay $10 since i
have a purchased copy of 32 vista?

2. I have heard that all versions of the 64 bit upgrade are on the same cd,
so I should be able to install premium 64 from my friends home 64 cd.
Correct?

3. what is the crap i have read about having to have full version of XP to
upgrade to 64 vista....does this sound pretty stupid to anyone
else...considering if a new copy of vista was bought, you obviously did not
purchase XP.....

And why would you want to use the 64 bit version? Maybe so you can be
incompatible with all other software in the universe? J/K, why are you
doing it?

Probably so his 64 bit CPU can execute combo instructions used by the 64
bit OS twice as fast as two 32 bit instruction and so that the OS can move
data twice as fast using 64 bit registers instead of 32 bit registers and
these benefits can be accomplished without any performance degradation to
his 32 bit applications.

If you have OEM 32bit Vista Home Premium; you have to pay right price for OEM
64bit version; not $10.

If your 32bit home Premium is a full Retail version; contact microsoft about
the cheap 64bit disk. You are entitled to it, for a minimum cost(I think it
is $10)

Also, 32bit to 64bit, and 64bit to 32bit is ONLY done by clean install.
