Sorry in advance if I'm too vague but this is my first post and i will try my
best!

I have a Vista Desktop (DT) with internet access and an old XP laptop(LT)
which i wish to (wireless) network together for the purpose of internet and
file sharing.

The LT is using a TP link WN510g (PCI card) and the DT a TP link WN321g (USB
Dongle)

So far i have established a private network with excellent signal
strength(using WEP security), installed the LLC(?) XP update, and activated
Network discovery + File sharing. I have also installed the IPV6 protocol on
the LT yet i still cannot see the LT on the full map!?!

I am running PC Tools Firewall plus on both machines but even when i disable
this and use windows defender the LT does not show

Any suggestions?? i am happy to provide any additional info and thanks in
advance :)

Ha ha!! The sweet taste of limited success.....

http://www.lytebyte.com/2007/02/21/...connection-with-another-computer-using-vista/
sorted my internet connection. I've been trying for days.....surely it
should have been more difficult :)

Anyhows with that out of the way i now need to complete my network with file
sharing...

The good news is i can now see the LT on the map, but although i have set
Hard Drives on both computers to "Share" i can't seem to access them, any
thoughts??

Have a read of the above link re Vista File and Printer Sharing.

1st thing to do is make sure that the Workgroup Name of ALL the computers is
the SAME.

In Vista Network and Sharing:

Network Discovery: ON (So it can see the other computers)

Network set to Private (Public is for hotspots, airports, etc)

File Sharing: ON

Public Folder Sharing: ON (Vista’s Public Folder is the same as XP’s Shared
Docs)

Password Protected: OFF (unless you want to set up identical usernames and
passwords on ALL computers in your Network) If you have it ON, you will be
asked for a username and password when you try to access a Vista computer
from an XP computer.

Also, run the XP’s Home Network File and Printer sharing Wizard
