Sam

Windows XP never had this problem nor does it now.
Anyone smarter than me is welcome to find a solution to this issue and
let us all know?

here is the problem "Vista Windows Mail" and a simple test to perform:
1) create a test email.
2) in the subject type "Test"
3) when finished creating the email click save...it should now be in
your "Drafts Folder".
4) open the drafts folder (without opening the email) and drag the
email out on your desktop.
5) right click on the email and select "Foreword".
6) just ad something to the email ...some text ...although this is not
necessary.
7) now click the "File tab" and select "Save As"...be sure to save it
with the same name and location on your desktop.

Now the problem happens with this error message:

"Unable to save message

an error has occurred"

Download Windows Live Mail, which is a better mail reader.

Bob.. have you in-fact tried Windows Live Mail and does it copy to it
self? or is this just an opinion. Becaus if its just an opinion I
actually liked the Outlook Express 6.00.260 with SP2 ...rather usless
emails for the problem though.

You must admit this is a pretty unlikely scenario.
I've never had a need to drag a draft unto my desktop.

I have WLM installed, it has better function/ and is stable.
Personal opnion -
I do not use WLM very much, not because there is anything wrong with it, but
I have been using Firefox/Thunderbird for several years now and have had no
problems, it does everything I want it to do/plus more.
I am not anti/pro MS. I use what works for me.
If you look thru this discussion group WM appears to have several shortfalls.
