Hi, I have added my vista desktop to a test 2003 domain and then a 2000
domain. But I get an error when trying to add to a NT4 domain .... can anyone
please confirm to me that this is not possible ?.

Thanks

Is that NT 4 Domain running the latest Service Pack 6a? Which directory
service are you using on that NT 4 domain to manage users and accounts?

If you've upgraded the scheme on the DC to compensate for Vista to run
properly, I believe NT4 doesn't work after that. I did exactly that with
5308 some time ago, and knocked out my virtual NT4 computer :o(

Actually Zack, he is trying to connect Windows Vista (client) to a NT 4
Domain Server. In the case of the schema being updated, that relates
primarily to the Windows 2000 Server and Server 2003 domains. If the issue
is related to the schema then he would not have been able to connect to the
2000 Server Domain.

Andre, Yes on SP6a with all the hot fixes that were released up untill the
support stopped. PDC is setup as standard.

Try logging in using the same Administrator account and password thats used
to log in on the Server.

Same here,

Vista 32 on an NT domain. Using the old-fashioned way to join a domain
didn't work, but using the wizard did the trick just fine.

mmmm Im still having issues .. the error I get is when adding the computer to
the NT4 domain and it asks for the user name and password, I have entered a
domain admin user and password and get the following error:

There is no user session key for the specified logon session

This is via the Wizard, Any help will be appriceated. Thanks

mmmm I still get an error when adding to my NT4 domain :( . I get the error
when adding the computer to the domain, Using the wizard it says windows
connot find an account for your computer on the domain, Then asks me to
create one in the wizard .. after I enter the domain Admin user and password
it give the following error:

There is no user session key for this logon session

Any help is greatfully recieved.

i too am having trouble connecting to an NT domain w/ password problems. Can
anyone point me towards this wizard you're talking about?

the wizard is when you go into the system properties and click on the Network
Id button .. then it starts the wizard to change your computer name and add
to a windows domain. I am unable to do so because it guves the error as
listed above when I try to create the computer account on the NT4 domain.

The way I did it.....

Open Control Panel
Switch to 'Classic' mode.
Open 'system'
Is the section of the screen where is displays 'Computer Name, domain, and
Workgroup settings' Click on 'Change settings'
Click on 'Network ID'
Choose the top option 'This computer is part of a business network'
Follow the prompts from there.

incredible that I never used that in XP. always seemed like nonsense to
me... :)

This worked though, thanks!

I was having the same error trying to add a Vista 32 Business Edition PC to an NT 4 domain using the Wizard. Error = "There is no user session key for the specified logon session"

This is what I did that fixed my problem.

1. I went into the Administrative Tools, Local Security Policy, User Rights Assignment, Add Workstations to Domain and added the Administrator account in there.
I tried the wizard again after this change and was still unsuccessful.

2. While still in Local Security Policy went to Security Options, Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level, selected Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated.
I tried the wizard again and this time IT WORKED! (I think this was all that
was needed, but why did others work without any changes? Mybe they
were already set?)

3. I posted the information here for all and save the information for the future.

Good luck all.
